September is observed as the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by the International Society of Paediatric Oncology. This is to create awareness of the impact of cancer on so many children and their families around the world. For this campaign, the gold color is used to honor children with cancer. Golden September was observed at the auditorium of Dr.B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati on the 24th of September 2024. Eminent personalities from the public, doctors, and staff of BBCI joined these little warriors in their commitment to inspire hope among children and adolescents with cancer and their families. The event was supported by the Cuddle’s Foundation, Deepsikha Foundation, Assam Medical Clowning Academy, and Aroh, Giving Hope. Dr.Shyam Prasad Saikia, former IPS officer, Dr.Mrinmoyee Baruah, Secretary of Deepsikha Foundation, and Nilanjana Talukdar, Member of Assam State Commission for Protection for Child Rights were present as distinguished guests. Dr.Bibhuti Bhusan Borthakur, Director of BBCI delivered the welcome address.
Dr.Munlima Hazarika, Professor and Head of Medical and Pediatric Oncology at BBCI said, Gold doesn’t rust, likewise children with cancer shall always shine in their lives. The main objective of treating children with cancer is to cure most and care for all, further added Dr.Hazarika.
