On 30th August 2024, a day-long CME on “Best Blood Culture Practice” was conducted by the Department of Microbiology of Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute, in association with Biomerieux. This program was an initiative to promote knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding the management of sepsis in light of the upcoming “Sepsis Awareness Day” on 13th September. Dr. Bibhuti B. Borthakur, the Director of BBCI, inaugurated the program in the presence of Deputy Directors Dr. Mouchumee Bhatacharyya and Dr. Debabrata Barmon. The resource persons were Dr. Vikash Ranjan, Dr. Rashmisnata Barman, Dr. Amrita Talukdar, Dr. Sonai Dutta Kakati, Dr. Manasa K. and Mrs. K. Sushila and Ms. L. Shangnung. A wide range of topics were covered, including infection control protocol, challenges in managing sepsis in critical care, vascular access incidents, and antimicrobial stewardship, followed by an objective test for the participants. The target audience was resident doctors and nurses of BBCI. The initiative would positively impact the control of hospital-acquired infections and help decrease the sepsis burden on patients.
