DR. ASHOK KUMAR DAS, MS, Professor, Dept of Head & Neck Surgery, has a vast experience of 20 years in Head and Neck cancer surgery and treatment. Dr Das completed his under graduate and post graduate training from Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati. Then completed Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai from 2003 to 2005. He joined Department of Head and Neck Surgery in 2006 and was In charge of the Department from 2012 to 2017. He is a trained in transoral Laser Microsurgery from Prince Aly Khan Hospital, Mumbai. He went to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City, USA under Indo American Fellowship in 2017. He has also a certificate of CReDo Workshop in 2020, organized by NCG and TMH, Mumbai.

Dr. Das has 42 indexed publications and 3 Book Chapters to his credit and he is reviewer of National and International Oncology Journal.

Dr. Das is the Principal Investigator and Co PI of various Research Projects funded by ICMR/DBT/NCG. Most of his research activities are in Nasopharyngeal cancer, HPV related oropharyngeal cancer, and oral cancer.

Recently Dr. Das attended 7th World Congress of International Federation of Head and Neck Oncology Societies (IFHNOS) at Rome as invited Faculty.

Dr. Das has a keen interest in community awareness and screening programs and anti-tobacco activity. He is closely associated with Anti-Tobacco Cell of Govt of Assam and attended more than 65 capacity building workshops for District Nodal officers for tobacco control program and other stake holders as resource person for more than 15 years. He has participated in numerous cancer awareness and screening camps across the whole of NE India. He is also Patron of All India Anti-Tobacco campaign – “Voice of Tobacco Victim”, and associated with recently started “Affordable Cancer Care to one and all” project to strengthen the cancer care in District Hospitals of North East India.

Dr. Das is earlier an MCI and then letter NMC Accessor for Head and Neck Super specialty Mch course in many premier Cancer center in India. He is also NMC Accessor for MBBS course in Medical Colleges. He has visited many premier cancers center as External Examiner for Mch in Head and Neck Mch exams. He also visited West Bengal University as External Examiner for oral examination of PhD program.

Dr. Das was also Participated in the Standing Selection Committee of CNCI, Kolkata, and Regional Cancer Center, Bhubaneswar as an expert for filling up of vacant post of specialist in Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Das has delivered numerous talks in many Regional, National and International conferences as faculty, and conducted live surgical workshops as faculty. Dr Das was organizing Secretary of 22nd National Conference of FHNO in 2022 at Guwahati.

Dr. Das was awarded Pratishruti Cancer Care Award in 2022.

Dr. Das is associated with various oncology associations namely AONEI, Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology (FHNO), India, Indian Association of Thyroid Surgeon (ISTS), Asia Pacific Thyroid Association, North East Branch of AOI, founding secretary of North East Head and Neck Forum.
