Gold medalist in Master of Social Work, with Specialization in Community Development.

Worked as a Social Worker cum Counselor (2014-2018) in the Department of Pain & Palliative Medicine, Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, Guwahati.

Mr. Sonowal was awarded Employee of the Month on September 2015 for his outstanding performance, service and dedication as a social worker under the Palliative Care Project of JIV DAYA Foundation.

Mr. Sonowal successfully completed his Six Weeks training in Pain & Palliative Care from MNJ Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Center, Hyderabad, India.

Mr. Sonowal has worked as a Project Technical Officer ( Medical Social Worker) in Hospital Based Cancer Registry, Indian Council of Medical Research at State Cancer Institute, Gauhati Medical College from September 2018 to August 2019.

Mr. Sonowal was awarded with the "Pratishruti Award for Best Palliative Volunteer" for the year 2020 by the Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Care Trust.

On the occassion of Lokabandhu Day Celebration Mr. Sonowal received a certificate of appreciation for Compassionate Patient Care ( Non-Medical Category) from Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute authority on September 4th, 2021.

In September 2019 he joined in the Medico Social Work Department of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute as an Assistant Medical Social Worker.

He has also been invited as a Faculty in various training program on Palliative Care organised in the NE Region.

Mr. Sonowal attended several seminars and conferences of Palliative Care in various parts of India. He was the Treasure for the IAPC National Conference held at Guwahati on 14-16 February 2020 at Auditorium Guwahati Medical College, Guwahati.
