About the Library

 

Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute library was established in the year 1974 and since then the library has become an integral part of the institute. BBCI library plays a vital role in disseminating clinical information among doctors, trainees, research scholars, students and paramedical staff of the institute and acts as a clinical information centre of the institute. It is situated in the 2nd floor OPD building covering a carpet area of 2058.0 Sq. feet which includes stack area and reading room section. The library provides services like reading and lending service, reference service, current awareness service, photocopy service etc. to its users. There is a good collection of textbooks, reference books, multimedia resources, online databases, books and journals (both print and electronic) and back volume journals. BBCI library subscribes e-databases such as ClinicalKey, UpToDate, CHINAHL PLUS with full text, Ovid, TNM Online, Cambridge University Press, Proquest E-book Central, British National Formulary and 81 e-journals from different publishers which can be accessed through campus LAN facility. Apart from that, the library is also able to access e-resources from National Cancer Grid (NCG), DAE Consortium, and through Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. The library is well furnished and fully air conditioned. A good number of users can be accommodated in a single sitting. Users can access free internet facility for browsing online resources.

 

The institute has a separate library called Prerana Puthibharal which is specially meant for the patients of the institute. It has a good collection of fiction and non-fiction books.
